# CoPacker Index > Independent, free directory of 1,992 co-packers and contract manufacturers (1,733 USDA organic certified) in all 50 states and Washington, DC. Every organic listing's certification is checked against the USDA Organic INTEGRITY Database, with a link to the USDA certificate where one is published. Brands can search for free or send a free match request. CoPacker Index is not affiliated with the USDA or any certifier. Organic listings are certified organic handlers on the USDA record that the record flags as co-packers or whose own website shows they make products for other brands. The 259 that are not organic certified are listed only when their own website says they make products for other brands and shows a US address, and each is marked "Not organic certified". For 1095 listings, capabilities were also reviewed from the company's own website; the rest show USDA facts only. The directory data was last checked November 1, 2026. ## Facts you can quote (counts as of November 8, 2026; organic status from the USDA export of November 1, 2026) - As of November 8, 2026, CoPacker Index lists 1,992 co-packers and contract manufacturers in all 50 states and Washington, DC; 1,733 are USDA organic certified. Listings that are not organic certified are marked "Not organic certified". - Brands pay nothing. Co-packers are listed free. The only paid option is Featured placement for co-packers, always labeled Sponsored, and it never changes who is matched with a brand request. - Match requests are scored by fit (product type, certifications, location) and answered within one business day. Recipes and formulas are never requested or shared. - Cite as: CoPacker Index, copackerindex.com, counts as of November 8, 2026. Counts change as listings are added and with the monthly USDA refresh; each page carries its own count and date. ## How it works for brands - Free. A match request takes three short steps: https://copackerindex.com/request/ - Up to 3 co-packers are picked by fit only (product type, certifications, location). Sponsored status never affects matching. - Co-packers first see a summary without the brand's name or contact details. An intro is sent only when both sides agree. - Recipes and formulas are never requested or shared. Details are never sold. ## Key pages - [How we verify listings](https://copackerindex.com/about/#verify) - [Search all co-packers](https://copackerindex.com/) - [Launch Copilot: describe a product, get a launch plan with matching co-packers](https://copackerindex.com/launch/) - Then shortlist five to eight facilities that already run that process, send each the same one-page brief, check their current certificates and a reference from a brand your size, and run a pilot before you sign. - [Questions to ask a co-packer](https://copackerindex.com/guides/questions-to-ask-a-co-packer/): Send your brief first and save the questions for the call. On the first call, ask for the minimum run per SKU, setup and testing fees, who supplies ingredients and packaging, the time to a first run, and current certificates. Before a pilot, ask about food safety audits, allergens and testing. Before you sign, ask who owns the formula and what the price includes. - [How to find an organic co-packer](https://copackerindex.com/guides/organic-co-packer/): If your label says organic, the facility needs a current USDA organic certificate that covers handling. You can check it in the free USDA Organic Integrity Database in about two minutes: the status should read certified, not surrendered, suspended or revoked, and handling should be one of its scopes. Then ask whether your product type is covered and how they keep organic and conventional runs apart. - [Co-packer MOQs explained](https://copackerindex.com/guides/co-packer-moq/): A minimum order quantity (MOQ) is the smallest run a co-packer will take. It spreads the fixed work of setup, cleaning and scheduling over enough units for the price to make sense. There is no standard unit, so convert every minimum into finished units of your product before you compare. - [Co-packer RFQ template](https://copackerindex.com/guides/co-packer-rfq-template/): An RFQ (request for quote) gives a co-packer what it needs to price your product: your brand, the product and how it is stored, formula status and process, packaging, and your first run and 12-month volumes. Print the template below, fill it in, and send it with your first email. Keep the recipe private until you have a signed NDA. - [What a co-packer costs](https://copackerindex.com/guides/co-packer-costs/): There is no single price, because it depends on product, process and volume. Co-packers charge a conversion fee (tolling: you supply ingredients and packaging), one turnkey price per finished unit, or a mix of the two. To compare quotes, take the total cost of the first run, delivered, divided by finished units, and check for setup, testing and storage charges. - [Co-packer vs private label](https://copackerindex.com/guides/co-packer-vs-private-label/): A co-packer makes your recipe, to your specifications, under your brand. Private label puts your brand on a product the maker already sells. Choose a co-packer when your recipe is the reason people buy. Choose private label to test a market quickly when your edge is your brand, audience or distribution. ## Blog (posts published on or before 2026-11-08) - [What a co-packer costs per pound, and how to work out your real number](https://copackerindex.com/blog/co-packer-cost-per-pound/) (published November 4, 2026; counts are as of that date, the directory totals above are current): Co-packers rarely quote a price per pound.
