About CoPacker Index
CoPacker Index is an independent directory of USDA organic certified co-packers and contract manufacturers in the United States. It lists 1,299 facilities in 46 states. It exists to make one step of launching a food brand faster: finding a facility that can make your organic product.
How we verify each listing
- USDA record first. Every listing starts from the USDA Organic INTEGRITY Database, the public record of certified organic operations. We list only United States operations with active organic certification for handling that the USDA record flags as co-packers.
- The certificate is one tap away. Listings link to the USDA certificate where USDA publishes one, so you can check it yourself.
- The company's own website. For 162 listings we have also read the company's website to confirm they make products for other brands, and noted what they run and the certifications they list. The other listings show only what the USDA record says, and are marked "not yet reviewed" so you know to ask.
- Dates you can see. Every listing shows when it was last verified against the USDA record. The directory data was last checked October 1, 2026.
- Ongoing checks, every week. An automatic check reads about 300 current USDA organic certificates each week, starting with the listings checked longest ago, so every listing with a USDA certificate link is re-checked about once a month. Listings whose certifier publishes no certificate link are confirmed against USDA's monthly data release instead. Listings whose certificate could be read show when it was issued and what it covers. When a certificate can not be confirmed, we check the USDA record by hand and take the listing down if it is no longer certified. A company website that fails two checks in a row is no longer linked.
How matching works for brands
- It is free. You describe your product in a one-minute match request.
- We pick up to 3 certified co-packers by fit only: product type, certifications, and location.
- If you allow it, co-packers first see a short summary without your name or contact details. We introduce you only when a co-packer says yes, in one email to both of you.
- We never ask for your recipe or formula, and we never sell your details. See the privacy note.
How CoPacker Index makes money
We do not sell your details. Listings are free, and every facility is shown by the same rules. If we ever offer paid placement, it will be clearly labeled as paid.
The site is free for brands and always will be. In the future, co-packers may pay for extra visibility or for qualified introductions. Anything paid will be labeled Sponsored, and payment never changes which co-packers we match you with.
How we research and check what we publish
Our blog posts and guides are researched and written with the help of AI tools, then checked against a written standard before anything publishes:
- Every claim has a source. Each fact in a post is tied to the exact line of the source it comes from, and the sources are listed at the end of every post. Rules and certification points come from the regulation or the agency itself, not from summaries.
- A second, independent check. A separate review that sees only the draft and its sources tries to disprove every claim and every number. Anything it cannot confirm is cut.
- Our own numbers can be reproduced. Directory counts come from scripts that anyone can re-run against the same data.
- A person decides what publishes. Nothing goes live without a person's approval.
- Corrections are fast and visible. Report a mistake to info@copackerindex.com and we fix it within 48 hours, with a dated note on the post.
Nothing we publish is legal, safety, or certification advice. Confirm rules with your certifier or regulator before you act on them.
Independence
CoPacker Index is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the USDA, the National Organic Program, or any certifying agent. Certification data comes from the USDA's public database.
Accuracy
Certification status and capabilities change. Always confirm details with the facility, and check its current certificate, before you sign anything. If a listing is wrong, use the "Update this listing" link on its page and we will fix it.
